EN 1888: the stroller standard
The European standard EN 1888 (Part 1: strollers and lightweight strollers for children up to 15 kg; Part 2: seats for children over 15 kg and up to 22 kg) tests stability, brakes, harnesses, pinch points and durability. The standard itself is voluntary, but it is the recognized benchmark for whether a stroller is considered safe – compliance is demonstrated by a test report from a laboratory. Our product pages state whether we have such a test report; standards claims that come only from the supplier are labeled as such.
ECE R129 (i-Size): the infant car seat
Infant car seats are child seats for the car and need their own approval. An infant car seat without valid ECE approval must not be used in the car; since September 2024, only seats approved under UN ECE R129 (i-Size) may be sold new in the EU. That's why we only add travel systems that come with an infant car seat to the store once we have the approval.
GPSR: the new product safety regulation
Regulation (EU) 2023/988 has applied in the EU since December 2024. When selling online, the following must be stated for every product: the manufacturer, a responsible person in the EU, information identifying the product (such as type or model) and the warnings and safety information. At Buggino, you'll find them on every product page in the “Manufacturer & safety information” section – in your language.
What this means for you
- “Tested” without naming the standard and the testing laboratory means nothing.
- Ask about EN 1888 for strollers and about R129 approval for infant car seats (test mark “E” in a circle) – for infant car seats it is mandatory.
- At Buggino, you can see on every product page which certificates we have – and which we don't.
